Go to the website below and take the Five Factor Test to determine your personality. This test is based off from McCrae and Costa's study on personality.

What did you discover from taking the Five Factor Test?

My scores imply that I have relatively low neuroticism, which means I am likely emotionally stable and don't tend to experience negative emotions strongly. I scored quite high in agreeableness, indicating I am generally cooperative, considerate, and compassionate in your interactions. My conscientiousness score is moderately high, suggesting that I am likely organized and responsible, which people around me do not agree with and sometimes neither fo I. I scored high in openness to experience, indicating that I am open to new ideas and creative experiences. My  high extraversion score suggests I am outgoing and sociable. Most of the conclusions from the test’s results are accurate, however, everyone is different and sometimes bias to themselves so there could be certain mistakes.

Where there any new insights? Is so what were they? Were there any surprises? If so what surprises? Share only what you feel comfortable sharing with your group. (The big five personality trait dimensions are: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness and Neuroticism). This Five Factor Test can be found at the following website: https://www.psychologistworld.com/influence-personality/five-factor-test/

These scores reinforce the idea that I have a well-rounded and positive personality profile. It may not be surprising, but it's valuable to recognize these traits and understand how they influence my behavior and interactions with others and, in my opinion, that influence is great as I make everyone around me happy when I am happy too.

Neuroticism 56%

Agreeableness 76%

Conscientiousness 63%

Openness to experience 88%

Extraversion 85%

Watch Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs Video in this unit BEFORE continuing with answering this question. In Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, he sees a the more pressing needs of a person at the bottom of the pyramid (physiological needs, safety needs, and love needs). These lower three level of  needs have to be satisfied before higher needs can be met which are esteem and self- actualization.

Which level do you feel most people reach and why?

At the base of Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, most people do satisfy their basic physiological, safety, and love needs. These fundamental necessities are relatively accessible to a wide range of individuals. The basic needs from the piramid should be easily achieved by anyone but social needs like love are not hard to achieve either as humans are social beings.

What keeps people from reaching the level of "Self-esteem Needs" or "Self-Actualization Needs" and why?

Ascending the hierarchy to fulfill self-esteem and self-actualization needs is a different story. Many factors, such as societal pressures, financial constraints, and personal situations, hinder people from reaching these higher levels. Pursuing self-esteem and self-actualization often demands a certain level of privilege and freedom from external influences, which is not universally available.

Do you think most people reach the Self-Actualization or reach their potential?

Considering a broader perspective, it's a considerable challenge for most individuals to attain self-actualization. Many are occupied with fulfilling lower-level needs, and external expectations and societal norms often act as barriers. As a result, the number of people who manage to reach the pinnacle of self-actualization remains relatively low, given the complexities of modern life.

Hey, Chris

I feel as though your results on the five-factor test accurately measure your personality. It is admirable that you have such positive results. Regarding your analysis of Maslow's Hierarchy, I feel like your discussion of basic needs being easily acquired is minutely idealistic. As much as we would like for basic physiological and safety needs to be fulfilled, it can be very difficult for some individuals to do so depending on their personal situations and backgrounds. I fully agree with your depiction of the difficulty of attaining self-actualization. Many people struggle to reach this stage because of setbacks or challenges they face that cause them to revert back to fulfilling their basic needs. Overall, this was a great discussion post. Your response was very insightful.
