Hey, my name is Lily Cai. I live in Cleveland, Georgia with my parents, older brother, and younger sister. I have a cat named Lola and a Dog named Max. I love spending my free time outside.

From reading the two articles I do not think this is scientifically accurate. TV exposure to kids has become more renowned, but the data collected was only based on kids the ages of one and three lacking age variety. "Ten percent of children had attentional problems at age 7" (Christakis et al. 2004). To have a more scientifically accurate result instead of limiting the data to seven year olds. They should have surveyed children from ages seven to sixteen. The article is based on a survey and with the data collected they came up with the conclusion that TV is a primary reason for the lack of attention in a developing seven year old. To be scientifically accurate they should have included more information to back up their claim instead of just a survey. The article seems like it was put together with limited resources.

Prior to this class, I had very little knowledge after reading both chapters I was amazed by how our minds interpret different things and the history behind psychology found in chapter 1. I found the history and research behind Pavlov's theory extremely fascinating as conditioned reflexes can be found in both animals and humans. In chapter two I liked how it explained the way data was collected and the process behind it.

Hi Lily!

I think you made a really good point with your post.  What you said was very descriptive and in-depth. I really like how you explained and went into depth about how the experiment could've gone better. I also liked how you explained the weaknesses of the document. I think the point about the lack of data for the developing seven year old was a really good point, and the researchers definitely needed to do some more research before they started this experiment without much knowledge about it. I also thought Pavlov's theory was very interesting. It's so cool that the conditioned reflexes and be found in humans and animals too!

Hey Lily!

The point you made about the ages of kids in the first experiment lacking variety was good, I had not thought about how that will not provide the most accurate data and is generalizing kids who watch television. I like how you gave a solution to help make the research experiment and data better. I agree with you, the article had great potential and seemed very well put together as well as well-worded data but the resources were limited and lacked variety. I am also in the same boat, I had very limited knowledge of psychology and found it so interesting how our minds interpret different things. Good job Lily, this was really fun to read!

Hey Lily,

I agree with your description of the article's inaccuracy and your solution to the issues presented. I also feel that the article should have presented numerical evidence rather than a simple survey. Your analysis of the articles was very similar to my own. I am glad you find Pavlov's experiments interesting as they serve as one of the most practical studies used to compare the human brain with that of an animal. “Pavlov’s “classical conditioning” is only one form of learning behavior studied by behaviorists” (Speilman, 2014, p.11). Maybe you would also be interested in learning more about other behaviorists and their studies.
